July 4, 2011

It was a first ... I was honored to make the much-loved cheese ball that Gavin's Grandma has made for years.  (I'm talking decades!)  We did a trial run the end of last week, made some adjustments and according to crowd yesterday, the real cheese ball was a success.  It wasn't perfect, but it was close, which was really all I was going for anyway.

And, if you want to know how to be successful when it comes to replicating a family recipe, here's the secret:  talk to the one who prepared it before you!  When I hit a snag in the taste of the trial cheese ball, I called Gavin's Grandma, and she gave me the info I needed, plus the unwritten steps in the preparation.   That information made all the difference.  While I don't have a picture of the famed cheese ball, I was happy to continue on the tradition!

Up next ... lots of pictures from our family's July 4th Party!!

Fireworks!

I have a fireworks setting on my camera.  I had fun playing with it.  I could have a whole other post of just my fireworks pictures, but I will refrain!  (Facebook friends, you may not be so lucky!)

We hope you had a wonderful holiday!!

Until next time,
