Performace ... Sort of

Why don't children perform on demand? If I would have asked Miles to say "sock," I'm sure he would have refused, but as I was asking them to sign "friend," you get to see Miles show you socks. He is brilliant. Both Macey and Miles signed friend for a few days after I taught them the word, but now are refusing. Isn't it great to be a toddler? They are, however, great at signing the all important "more" and "all done."

Currently, Miles likes to say, "Daa." He doesn't quite add the "d" on the end, and it sounds like he's stressed when he says it over and over. Macey's new word is "puppy." I find it so interesting that they don't say the same words. It's strange, especially when you take into account that they seem to be able to communicate with each other! :-)

As for Miss Pearl. She informed us that green is no longer her favorite color. "I've noticed it is a boy color," she told us. What? Where does she come up with these things? We love watching her learn things.

On Friday, she made a bracelet at school to represent different skin colors with a heart between each colors. This morning we were talking about Martin Luther King, Jr. Gavin
tried explaining who he was. It went something like this ... "you know that at one time people used to tell people with black skin what to do and they had to do it. It was like people were property and they could be bought and sold. That's not good is it?" Pearl, of course, answers no. I, however, am thinking ... and how is he going to make this work? She's four! Yes, let's give her a detailed history lesson over breakfast. Gavin continues on saying that there were some people who didn't think this was good either, and there was a civil war. It was at this point that Gavin realizes he's gone back about 100 years too far in history to make this story even work!

I'm sure you had to be there, but by now, we are both laughing ... the history lesson has failed, and Pearl keeps asking, "Why are you laughing?" Poor Pearl ... it's a good thing she has teachers other than her parents!!

I have some books about MLKJR. if you would like to barrow them they make it much easier to expain. They help you stay on his events. He wanted everyone to get to play together no matter what color they were. Because a long time ago people looked at your skin and not what was in your heart to decide if they liked you or not. Also help was for peace not fighting. :) Gavin take 2 it has to go better!

Love the video. :) So cute how Miles likes socks so much! And I know just what you mean about kids not performing when you want them to- why do they do that??!!! :)
