Today, I needed to finish up a birthday present for one of the children, so I asked my mom to come watch the kids while I sewed and they cleaned. The reward: swimming this afternoon. All went fairly well. Of course, while I was preparing lunch, Pearl somehow bopped Macey in the upper left cheek and left a little mark. Macey's concern, "What if Miss Emily sees it?" Miss Emily is the girls' dance teacher. And, I'm not really sure why she was concerned about that.
Later at the pool, I wasn't quite as close as I should have been for Miles, and he found his head under the water. This is not his idea of fun. When I suggested he put his head in the water he told me, "I've already been baptized."
And not to be left out of the day ... we come to Pearl. Pearl met a new friend at the pool and spent a good hour or so trying to convince this girl to go down the drop-off slide. At the break time, when we were suppose to leave, Pearl asked for 10 more minutes, as she just knew this girl would go down the slide. I agreed, and then I watched. Ten minutes later, that girl had still not gone down the drop-off slide, but I couldn't find Pearl after watching her jump into one of the other pools. Finally, I found Pearl and asked her what was going on. She said she was trying to enjoy the rest of her 10 minutes. I see; however, it has now been 15 minutes, and it is time to go. Tears ensued. Pearl told me that she had wasted her time and this girl had never gone down the slide. Pearl said she hadn't gotten to play very much. I agreed with her that this was all true and that choices have consequences. She continued to cry and insist it was not her fault. I continued to point out it was her choice and suggest a nap.
Good times!! When does school start??
Until next time,
