She just doesn't want to apply herself, as she can play by ear. We figured this out early on, as occasionally Gavin and I would play something for her, and then she could magically play it correctly and pretty much without the music. We don't do that anymore.
She gets so frustrated when something doesn't "sound" right. Tonight's case-in-point: it didn't sound right because her fingers were on the wrong keys!! Instead of getting too terribly upset, I sent her to bed (it was late) and suggested I chat with her piano teacher about starting over if she can't find G!! Of course this suggestion was met with tears and promises to do her flash cards. Oh what to do when one's gift gets in the way of succeeding.
Her way of telling me she was not pleased with me.

Love it. It sure is tough to be Pearl!
That is too funny! Natalie tries to play by ear, too, and by looking at her hands so I covered her hands up with a piece of paper every time she would play so that she would HAVE to read the notes. :) She has only had a couple months of lessons but I can already see how it can be frustrating at times for both child and mom!! :) I'm curious, there is such a thing as piano flashcards? We might need those (and Natalie might disagree.) :)
Sounds kind of like her Mom when she was Pearl's age....wanting to get it RIGHT! Auntie Lori
that note is totally something my oldest would make too!!
I wish I was there just to give her a hug - Glad she has talent. :)
